Communication is essential to a good working relationship. Numerous problems can arise with inconsistent or ineffective communication. Even too much information can complicate even the best leadership. Below are three easy tips to remember when working with busy leaders.
- Bottom line. As with most busy leaders, they don’t need all the unnecessary information; often, they need the bottom line version of the facts.
- Be professional. More often, our personal and work life communication uses text messaging, e-mailing and social media venues. So, it is imperative to convey a professional tone at all times.
- Effective listening. It is essential to not only have active listening but to listen and LEARN. Strive to understand the object or task.
As mentioned in the prior blog, we discussed resources and resourceful people. There are also resources to help teams with communication, such as Basecamp (my personal favorite) Trello and Slack. Using these types of apps help limit confusion and create and maintain deadlines.
Remember when working with clients, you not only represent yourself but those you work for and the companies values. It takes intention and discipline when learning these skills.
